Spelling Bee Sew Along

Good Day and Happy you stopped by!
Today I am sharing a fun sew along going on over at Fat Quarter Shop.

Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet wrote another adorable book which features complete instructions for 100 letter, number, punctuaction and picture blocks in two sizes plus 18 quilt projects!

This Sew Along will feature 88 of the blocks from the Spelling Bee Book.
This is just a sampling the blocks and they are absolutely adorable.
Lasting 44 weeks, The Sew Along will feature 2 blocks from the book each week. You can find all the details [HERE]
I am going to be sewing along, too.  I have plans to make both my boys a name quilt - "Luc" and "Liam" - for Christmas.
My hope is that they are not too old (they are 10 and 14 years old) to get a hand made quilt  : )                      I have already pulled the fabrics - a black and green combo for Liam and a blue/black combo for Luc.
Be sure to check out all the cute projects from the Sew-Along [HERE]

I couldn't resist making a version of this block with a print background : )

It is hard to believe that this quilt along started 9 months ago!  How time flies!

Be sure to head on over to the other quilter's blogs who are part of this quilt along!

Super Cute Paper Piecing ~ Butterfly Cross-Body Bag

Today I am sharing the fourth project in my book "Super Cute Paper Piecing"

I love to make useful items with my paper pieced blocks and I think this project fits the bill!
It is a perfect size bag and can be carried cross body which makes it incredibly versatile.

For the paper pieced butterfly - I used a tiny gingham for the border around the wings and a couple of my favorite Japanese fabrics for the wings.  The butterfly body is a tiny grey dot fabric.

Yesterday I received an advanced copy of the book.  I can't begin to tell
you how excited I am.  It really is a dream come true!

The Martingale team did such a fabulous job.

Super Cute Paper Piecing ~ Apple Wristlet

Today I am sharing another project from my book "Super Cute Paper Piecing".

My Apple Wristlet is a sweet and useful project.
The wristlet is a perfect size to use as a purse or just make the pouch to hold
sewing essentials or make-up.
I can't seem to have too many pouches!

If you are familiar with my work it is no surprise to see an apple themed project in the book : )

I designed this block for the book "Playful Little Paper Pieced Projects"

And this little zip pouch is in the same book.

I even made an apple block for an online block printing class from Jen Hewitt

If you want to get a head start on paper piecing an apple, I have this fun beginner apple block [HERE]
It is a perfect block to practice your paper piecing skills.

Super Cute Paper Piecing ~ Sewing Cottage Pillow

Hello!
I am So happy you stopped by. Today I am sharing the second project from my new book, "Super Cute Paper Piecing", which will be released this November!

This is the Sewing cottage pillow and it is a fun project to make.
It is the perfect protect for fussy cutting all those little windows!

This is a fun block that can be personalized for whatever little house you want to make.
Make a sewing, gardening or cooking themed house.  Let your imagination run wild : )

Because the blocks in this book are small,  I like to use small scale prints.
Small scale prints don't get lost is all those little pieces.

The Polka Dot used for the background is Moda Essential Dots.

Gingham prints are also a favorite of mine.  Tiny ones work best, I think.
Art Gallery Fabrics has a fun new line of gingham you can find [HERE]

Riley Blake has a line called Small Cotton Gingham which comes in a lovely array of colors.

I am looking forward to having time to make an entire quilt with these cute little houses!

All the info and news about my book (including where to order it) can be found [HERE]

Super Cute Paper Piecing ~ Colored Pencil Pouch

I am so excited to start sharing projects from my new book ~ "Super Cute Paper Piecing"!
Every week I will share a project from my book until the book releases in November.

All info about the book can be found on my blog [HERE]

This is the first project in the book.  This cute colored pencil is one pattern unit, so it is the perfect project to paper piece.

I love that the patchwork bottom panel has fussy cuts to take advantage of the cute prints!

The body of the pouch is Essex Linen in color Flax.  Essex Linen is a favorite of mine and you will see it used in half of the projects in the book.

The red polka dot is from Moda ~ Essential Dots.
Polka dots are another one of my favorite prints for fussy cut projects.

In the book you will find a "How To" section which will teach you to Paper Piece, and Fussy Cut.
Both skills are important to master to make this first project.

If you want to get a head start on your paper piecing skills, check out my paper piecing Crayon Tutorial [HERE]

Kimono Sleeve Dress in Sew It All Magazine

Good Morning!
It is Another sunny day in Seattle and I am soaking up the last few days of beautiful weather before my boys go back to school.
Not much sewing going on here but I do have a project to share.

Years back I designed my Kimono Sleeve Dress for Stitch Magazine.
Sadly, Stitch is gone but the folks at F & W Media who are the parent company, own Stitch's content and have been re-publishing the content in their other magazines and e-books.

I received word from Sew It All that my Kimono Sleeve Dress was in the latest issue of Sew it All #11.
To be honest, I had forgotten all about that design!
It is an incredibly easy make and perfect for a first time garment sewist.
You can find the pattern and link to purchase the magazine [HERE]

It has an empire seam which can be problematic for the fit on larger chested gals.
Check out this handy little diagram to check for a correct fit and how to modify the pattern.

Happy sewing!

Vintage Block Quilt Along

In 2012 I had an idea to do a quilt-along using vintage quilt block patterns.
It took a little over two years and 12 patterns were done!
You can find all the patterns and tutorials [HERE]

I have all the blocks sewn but have yet to make them into a quilt.
My next project is to decide the sashing for this quilt, which I will share soon!

I decided to put pictures of my unfinished projects on a cute bulletin board (I found the bulletin board at Joann fabrics) so I don't forget which projects I need to finish.
It helps me to have a visual reminder : )

Looks like I will need a few more bulletin boards for all my projects!

Summer is coming to an end so I hope to have time to finish lots of my unfinished projects when my boys are back in school.

I hope you are enjoying these last days of summer!

Happy Sewing!

Bella Skill Builder ~ Month 7

It is time to share the newest block for the Bella Skill Builder Sew Along hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop and designed by Sherri McConnell of a Quilting Life.

I just happened to be hanging clothes on the line today and thought it would be a perfect way to share the block I made for this month.

There are two block patterns this month and they both use half and quarter square triangles.  Fat Quarter Shop send me [this] handy dandy little ruler that makes the task of creating half square triangles easy peasy : )

I love how this blocks works with the others in the series.

The Splendid Sampler ~ Sew Along #2

In case you missed it the first time around, there is another Splendid Sampler Sew Along.
You can find the new sew along blocks [HERE]

The Splendid Sampler is the brain child of Pat and Jane who came up with the idea to ask 100 designers to come up with a 6" block to contribute to a sew along!
Get all the info on The Splendid Sampler Website [HERE]

The cool thing is that all the blocks have been published in a book.   You can find the book [HERE]

This is the second sew along in conjunction with the release of the book.
I am so happy they created another sew along.
I didn't quite get to all the blocks the first time around.

So far I have made block #73 entitled "Love" by Jennifer Albaugh.
I am looking forward to making more and watching this quilt grow.

Today, I printed out this handy dandy Block List which includes pics of all the blocks.
It is a great way to keep track of the blocks you have made.
You can find it [HERE]

Be sure to tag your photos of the blocks you make on Instagram with the hashtag #TheSplendidSampler.
